You can include a note or specific designation with your donation to help the charity understand how you’d like your funds to be used.
To add a note to your donation:
- Navigate to the Donate page
- Search for and select your desired charity
- Enter your donation amount
- Under Donation Preferences, locate the option to Add a note to the charity
- Toggle this option on
- Enter your message (up to 500 characters)
- Complete your donation as usual
What should I include in my note?
Your note can be used to:
- Designate your donation for a specific campaign or fund
- Provide context for your gift
- Share a brief message with the organization
Example:
Marathon runner is collecting funds for the upcoming Boston Marathon, note can state, “Please direct this donation to Jane Doe’s Campaign for the Boston marathon.”
Additional Information
- If the note option is toggled off, no message will be included with your donation
- Notes are shared with the recipient organization but do not guarantee restricted use unless the charity is able to honor the request
- For security and donor privacy, donor information is not included with mailed checks. Nonprofits can access full donation and donor details by logging into the nonprofit portal
